Guided tour highly recommended, very informative and offers insights into the lives and times of migrants and refugees to Australia from the 40s to 70s. All the more poignant if you have a personal link to the camp, such as loved ones were here. I found it easy yet difficult to imagine what life would have been like here, they say Block 19 was the best standard accommodation yet there is no images or account of what the other blocks were like (long since demolished). If you use their search computer you can order a copy of your resident's identity card from the time, but it takes a while in the post. They also have information on the ships and planes that migrants came on and can find this out for you if needed. A very worthwhile place to visit.

An interesting detour if you're staying in the area of passing through. The lady was very friendly and helpful with information, including trying to find my great-grandfather in the National Archives of Bonegilla migrants (turns out he'd come over before Bonegilla opened). Looks just like any other army camp, with some interesting stories from people who stayed there.
